Hindu Young Barber Dies Allegedly Under Army Custody Amid Interfaith Tensions

Hriday Rabi Das, a 21-year-old Hindu barber from Kishoreganj, died under suspicious circumstances, allegedly due to torture by the Bangladesh Army. He was reportedly handed over to the Army by locals following accusations related to his relationship with a Muslim girl. Accounts suggest that Hriday was subjected to severe interrogation and possible mistreatment while in custody. Subsequently, he was transferred to Abdul Hamid Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of November 16, 2024. This tragic incident underscores concerns over state-sponsored violence and the systemic marginalization of Hindu communities in Bangladesh.

Hindu youths like Utsav Mondal and Hridhay Paul have been falsely accused of blasphemy and subjected to severe custodial torture. In both instances, Bangladesh Army personnel were directly implicated in acts of physical and psychological abuse, reflecting a troubling pattern of state-backed intimidation and violence against minority communities.
